Spotlight On: Kantha Quilts
Leave a commentWe’ve been crazy about Kantha Quilts for awhile now. Aside from their lush colors and intricate embroidery, we love that they have such a rich history behind them. Originally, Kantha quilts were made out of old saris, dhotis and kurtas. The women of Bengal would repurpose these old items by removing their threads, piling them on top of each other and sewing them together to make thick and warm quilts. Nowadays, new fabric is used but the techniques are still the same. Each piece is painstakingly sewn by hand making them extra special!
